Position: Senior Design Engineer- Controls (NORESCO)
Location: Carrier Mills

Role

Senior Design Engineer – Controls s senior‑level position reports to an Engineering Manager and may include managing and training direct reports. The engineer works with internal project teams and cybersecurity specialists to ensure controls and engineering designs deliver the energy‑saving guarantees and functional performance specified by customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a collaborative Design/Build process that leverages NORESCO technical expertise with external engineering, vendor, and subcontractor partners.
  • Manage the design and engineering process on assigned projects; refine schedules, scopes, and budgets; lead design review meetings and charrettes; manage engineering consultants; track design submissions and customer approvals; ensure all scope elements are accurately designed, documented, reviewed, and distributed to the project team for construction.
  • Create and refine competitive technical solutions and controls‑based energy‑conservation measures in collaboration with project developers and in response to customer needs.
  • Complete site investigations, data collection, and prepare conceptual design documents (points lists, schematics, control sequences, network architecture, equipment selections, preliminary drawings, scopes of work, specifications, etc.).
  • Support project pricing efforts in partnership with NORESCO Construction; finalize bid packages; qualify subcontractors; conduct bid reviews; perform value engineering and evaluate life‑cycle and long‑term service agreements.
  • Assist the project team during construction, commissioning, and performance phases to resolve design issues, document as-built conditions, and ensure performance objectives are met.
  • Perform energy cost‑saving calculations for HVAC, chilled water, boilers, energy storage, and other facility infrastructure projects.
  • Participate in equipment evaluation and procurement, including developing specifications and vendor scopes of work, reviewing designs, and inspecting vendor shop visits.
  • Identify key customer interests, needs, and drivers; refine strategies and develop scopes that address these concerns in the proposed project.
  • Travel as required (anticipated 20–35%).
Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of Design Controls Engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer’s registration.
  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical, or Civil Engineering.
  • High‑level communication, leadership, engineering, and project‑management skills.
  • Strong ownership, adherence to project schedules, and timely issue resolution.
  • Interest in engaging clients, customers, and partners to build relationships.
  • Advanced knowledge of control systems and engineering: design principles, technologies, energy optimization, utility rates, codes, design guides, and standards.
  • Desire to build respectful and inclusive relationships within project teams.
  • Robust business acumen, risk management, and strategic thinking.
  • Experience with engineering criteria for federal facilities.
  • Eligibility to obtain federal security clearance.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple engineering projects and tasks.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration to lead complex engineering activities beyond a single discipline.
Pay Range

The annual salary for this position is between $96,000.00 and $. Factors that may affect pay include skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate.

Other Compensation

This position is entitled to short‑term cash incentives, subject to plan requirements.
