Overview
Argonne National Laboratory seeks an Emergency Management Officer to serve as Manager of the Office of Emergency Management within the Emergency Preparedness and Response division of the Security and Emergency Services (SES) Directorate. The role leads the development, implementation, administration, management, coordination, and maintenance of Argonne’s All‑Hazards Emergency Management program.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain comprehensive emergency management plans, procedures, and policies.
- Lead emergency preparedness, response, and readiness assurance activities, including risk and consequence assessments.
- Coordinate with technical, professional, and management personnel across the laboratory to ensure effective emergency management.
- Serve as a rotating member of the Laboratory’s Emergency Management Team, including potential extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Maintain required training qualifications and ensure all team members comply with applicable regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in emergency management planning, preparedness, response, and readiness assurance.
- Strong leadership, analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication and listening skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (database, spreadsheet, and word processing).
- Ability to work independently, follow through on assignments with minimal direction, and interact with diverse stakeholders.
- Master’s degree in Emergency Management, Environmental Science, Industrial Risk Management, or related advanced degree.
- Familiarity with emergency management laws, regulations, DOE Orders, and guidance (DOE O151.1E, DOE O150.1B, DOE O470.3C, EPCRA, and the National Incident Management System).
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative hazardous materials risk and consequence assessment techniques.
- Experience in security risk assessment or vulnerability assessment methodologies.
- Knowledge of integrated emergency management programs, including major nuclear and hazardous material sites.
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification.
Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance. Must maintain all required training qualifications.
