Position: Legislative Affairs Officer with Security Clearance
Location: Scott Air Force Base

Duties
* Develops strategies for improving and maintaining strong relationships with Congress. Monitors and advises the Commanding General, Deputy to the Commander, Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff, Staff Directors
* Assesses Congressional actions, reports and conclusions, and advises and makes recommendations to the Commanding General on matters of such significance as to warrant his personal attention.
* Participates in command liaison activities and in the coordination of the legislative affairs of the command with the legislative affairs offices of Army Materiel Command and US Transportation Command.
* Prepares the Commanding General and other Army Transportation Command leaders for testimony before Congress.
* Develops and implements command-wide plans, policies, and procedures for Army Transportation Command Congressional affairs program.
* Maintains liaison with and represents Army Transportation Command in connection with matters of Congressional interest, inquiry and investigation at all Army Materiel Command and US Transportation Command meetings and engagements.
* Assists in the execution of the Command's Public Affairs mission by developing, promoting and implementing effective command information, media relations, community relations and social media programs. Requirements Conditions of employment
* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
* Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
* Incumbent may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

Experience:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes1) applying Congressional and legislative affairs to support liaison activities by preparing background materials,2) assisting with Congressional inquiries and contributing to action plans.
3) building relationships with internal and external stakeholders,
4) analyzing legislation policies to develop recommendations and
