Provides a variety of barbering services at a main branch or location haircare facility for authorized military and civilian personnel.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvides barbering hair care services for clients which include shampooing, conditioning, cutting, shaping sideburns, nape of the neck, middle and top part of the head into various haircuts and styles to suit clients. Serves shaves, face styles, mustache, and beard. Massages neck, face, and scalp. Checks clients scalp and hair for visible disorders such as sores, abrasions, diseases which might interfere with requested barbering services.
Consults with client on matters pertaining to their hair care needs. Maintains combs in solution and sanitizes equipment. Responsible for upkeep and cleanliness of designated workstation and shop. Prepares shampoo and towels to minimize delay of customer services. Makes minor repairs on equipment such as replacing switches, plugs, and cords. Operates cash register, prepares hair care chits, collects and accounts for cash.
Uses daily sales report to balance sales. Sells hair care products and maintains Daily Appointment Book. May open and close shop. Assists with monthly inventory. Carries out policy of courtesy and customer service, ensuring 100% client satisfaction. Works under general supervision of designated supervisor. Carries out assignments independently within prescribed policies and procedures, exercising tact with clients. Work is reviewed for quality of services provided and client satisfaction achieved.
Effort
Requires continual use of both arms and legs, involving frequent standing, reaching, and light lifting of objects that rarely exceed 5 pounds. Dexterity required in applying manual techniques.
Working ConditionsWork performed inside a haircare facility with proper lighting, plumbing, heating, adequate aisle space, strong water pressure, plentiful hot water, and adequate electric power and outlets. Incumbent is subject to cuts, burns, strains, and electric shock. May be exposed to hair cuttings, skin conditions, common colds, and communicable diseases. Must wear a smock and wash hands thoroughly, frequently with soap and water, and sanitize barbering tools after each use.
MinimumQualification Requirements
Graduate of an accredited school of barber culture or cosmetology and possession of a valid State License in Barbering or Cosmetology.
Medical Screening RequirementAll barber shop and beauty shop employees, including contract personnel, must be medically screened and determined to be free of communicable diseases prior to initial assignment. No periodic examinations required unless necessary for local reasons. Screening may be performed by non‑physician personnel. The employer will direct the employee to a medical clinic on base where they must be screened. Abnormal responses or findings must be further evaluated by a provider.

MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN OR HAVE LIVED IN THE U.S. FOR THREE YEARS.
Education and LicenseGraduate of an accredited school of barber culture or cosmetology and possession of a valid State Licence in Barbering or Cosmetology. Candidates with a U.S. State Licence in Cosmetology from a State other than the State the position is located must obtain a valid State Licence in Barbering or Cosmetology in the State the position is located within six months from the date of hire.
