Responsibilities
The EMT is a caregiver who functions as a team leader when responding to emergency calls or during emergency transport.
In the caregiver role, the EMT-Basic/Intermediate/Paramedic assumes responsibility for the emergency treatment and routine transfers of patients.
As field leader, the EMT-Intermediate/Paramedic directs and oversees the care given by their co‑workers, other EMS personnel, and bystanders via delegation to ensure the highest level of care, coordination, supervision, validation, and evaluation.
EMT-Basic/Intermediate perform patient care technician duties in ER within their licensure as directed by RN.
