Job Summary

The Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Utah School of Medicine seeks an immediate opening for a Genetic Counselor. The role involves providing genetic counseling and support to families with birth defects, genetic disorders, or inherited cardiac conditions. The position includes both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities and requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary genetics team to improve the lives of children and their families.

• Utilize detailed genetic knowledge to consult with patient care specialists and referring providers, offering professional recommendations for patient and family screening, evaluation, and care planning.
• Provide individualized genetic counseling, emotional support, and crisis counseling as needed.
• Work in both inpatient and outpatient settings, collaborating with a genetics clinic staffed by a geneticist twice monthly.
• Review complex medical and genetic literature and incorporate findings into clinical practice.
• Oversee and answer questions regarding genetic testing and counseling consultations, as directed by the Division of Pediatric Cardiology.
• Engage in research activities related to cardiovascular genetics and genetic counseling, supporting division research and developing initiatives.
• Contribute to team culture emphasizing collaboration, shared responsibilities, and professional growth.
• Provide equitable care to all patient groups and develop models that increase genetic counseling and testing equity.

• Current license as a Genetic Counselor in the State of Utah.
• Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program (or equivalent experience).

• Licensed to practice in a clinical field.
• American Board of Genetic Counseling certification.
• Experience in cardiovascular genetics.

• Competitive salary ranging from $80,000 to $111,040.

The position involves light work, including lifting up to 20 pounds, carrying or pushing patient care equipment. The role requires about 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some flexibility available.
