Now Hiring a Part Time Psychiatric Technician
The psychiatric technician position serves in a paraprofessional capacity as part of the crisis intervention unit. The position assists clients with paperwork related to pending admissions, discharges and post-discharge phases, and transportation of patients/clients to and from inpatient psychiatric and crisis stabilization placements; performs a backup role to the crisis worker with support and informational crisis phone contacts; assists with the coordination of the care of clients who are placed in crisis stabilization sites;
and provides in-person medication deliveries, welfare checks and phone prompts to clients.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
- Routinely communicates with all members of the crisis intervention unit concerning crisis contacts, client transports, mobile in-person visits and other services, including transports of patients/clients provided by the crisis intervention unit.

- Provides emotional support and safe, timely and orderly transportation in a secured vehicle for individuals to and from designated psychiatric facilities, the crisis stabilization program, court hearings, community-based residential facilities and emergency lodging locations.
- Completes admission paperwork prior to transports, including financial, HSRS, client rights and other forms, and contacts the referred facility with admission information.
- Maintains a working knowledge of the crisis intervention policy and procedure manual, HFS Administrative Code 34 and patient rights-related laws.
- Attends mandatory monthly staff meetings and other meetings, training or in-services as required.
- Intervenes with clients in a manner that offers dignity and support.
- Documents the outcome of the client’s transport, including any psychological or physiological changes that occurred during the transport.
- Transports clients for medical clearance and/or to appropriate appointments at the outpatient counseling centers and court, when necessary.
- Conducts medication deliveries and in-person welfare checks for clients receiving outpatient mental health treatment at the counseling center.
- Performs crisis management techniques safely and effectively in emergency situations.
- Other duties as assigned that are reasonably within the scope of practice/duties and are qualified to perform.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED.
- 60 college/college transferable credits with emphasis in counseling, social work, psychology, human services or behavioral disorders or a combination of training and experience.
