Environmental Services (E.V.S.) staff are responsible for the cleanliness and disinfecting process of the Hospital, clinics, and outbuildings. They will achieve this by following strict guidelines for disinfection and sanitizing processes and following set cleaning procedures.
Responsibilities- Cleaning and disinfecting Hospital and Clinic surfaces and equipment
- Removing trash and bio-hazard waste.
- Physically checking and locking doors.
- Following all E.V.S. and MDH policies and procedures.
- Monitor for any wear and tear and submit a work request to maintenance.
- Specialty cleaning of lights, vents, ceilings. Etc.
- Maintaining a positive and professional attitude at all times.
- Mixing chemicals – following manufacturers guidelines.
- Any additional tasks requested by the Supervisor and/or Director.
- Documentation of all tasks via the hospital Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- On Call required.
- Professional appearance.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Frequent standing and walking for extended periods, often moving between various hospital units.
- Lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy equipment, trash bins, and laundry carts, sometimes weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
- Bending, kneeling, and reaching to clean under furniture, disinfect surfaces, and handle waste.
- Repetitive motions such as mopping, wiping, and scrubbing, which may strain muscles over time.
- Exposure to biohazardous materials, chemicals, and bodily fluids, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, masks, and gowns.
- A fast-paced, high-traffic setting, often requiring quick responses to spills, disinfection needs, and patient room turnovers.
- Interaction with patients, visitors, and healthcare staff, requiring professionalism and adherence to infection control protocols.
- Varying temperatures and conditions, such as working in patient rooms, hallways, operating rooms, and outdoor areas for waste disposal.
