We are searching for the next Patient Access Specialist champion. This role is responsible for performing admitting duties for all patients admitted for services at the hospital. The representative will work within the policies and processes as they are being performed across the entire organization and will meet the mission, goals, and regulatory compliance requirements of the hospital.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assign accurate MRNs, complete medical necessity/compliance checks, provide proper patient instructions, collect insurance information, receive and process physician orders, and utilize an overlay tool while providing excellent customer service as measured by Press Ganey. Operate the telephone switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and inter‑office calls as applicable and adhere to policies while delivering compassionate, high‑quality service. Hold accountability for point‑of‑service goals as assigned.
  • Utilize quality auditing and reporting systems to ensure accounts are corrected. Audits may include accounts for other employees, departments, and facilities. Conduct audits of accounts and ensure all forms are completed accurately and timely to meet audit standards and provide statistical data to Patient Access leadership.
  • Pre‑register patient accounts prior to patient visits, including inbound and outbound calling to obtain demographic, insurance, and other patient information, as well as patient financial liabilities, including collecting point‑of‑service collections and past‑due balances and offering payment plan options.
  • Explain general consent for treatment forms to the patient, guarantor, or legal guardian, obtain necessary signatures, and witness names. Distribute patient education documents such as Important Message from Medicare, Important Message from Tricare, Observation Forms, MOON form, Consent Forms, and all forms implemented for future services.
  • Review eligibility responses in the insurance verification system and appropriately select the applicable insurance plan code, entering benefit data to support point‑of‑service collections and billing processes to assist with a clean claim rate.
  • Accurately screen medical necessity using the Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) software to inform Medicare patients of potential non‑payment of tests and distribute the ABN as appropriate. Document distribution of other designated forms and pamphlets.
Experience We Love
  • 1+ years of customer service experience.
  • Must be inquisitive and demonstrate openness to innovation, including AI, to explore better processes and ways to alleviate friction and improve patient and client experiences.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • CRCR certification required within 9 months of hire (company paid).

  • This position pays between $17.00 and $18.15 per hour based on experience.
  • This position is onsite; candidates must be able to work on‑site at HSHS – St. Francis Hospital, Litchfield, IL.
Available Shifts
  • Part‑time 10:30 pm‑7:00 am every other weekend (24 hour week).
  • 3 days per week (2 shifts are 10:30 am‑7:00 pm and 1 shift is 2:30 pm‑11:00 pm).
