Student Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) – Position Overview
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a Psychological Assistant/Staff Psychologist/Senior Staff Psychologist in the Student Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) unit. CAPS is an IACS‑Accredited center that serves a diverse student population. This is a full‑time, 12‑month position.
Responsibilities- Provide time‑effective individual, couples, and group therapy
- Conduct crisis assessment and intervention
- Offer consultation and outreach programming to the university community
- Supervise doctoral interns and graduate trainees
- Participate on divisional and university committees
- Occasional evening and weekend activities are required
- All candidates must pass a background screening
Psychological Assistant:
- Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an accredited institution
- One year of related professional experience
- Provisional license as a Nevada Psychological Assistant by start date
Staff Psychologist:
- Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology with at least one year of professional experience
- Independent practice license as a psychologist in Nevada prior to employment
Senior Staff Psychologist:
- Doctoral degree with at least one year of professional experience
- Independent practice license as a psychologist in Nevada prior to employment
- Five years of licensed clinical work experience as a psychologist
Success requires strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention skills, experience in supervision and training, proficiency in brief therapy and group counseling, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preference for experience in a university counseling center and APA‑accredited programs.
