Training And Experience

Preference of prior experience in the field of H.I., plus on the job training with preferred experience in the use of Encoders. Job Knowledge:
The Certified Coder should be familiar with medical terminology, abbreviations, techniques, and surgical procedures; anatomy and physiology; major disease processes; pharmacology; and the metric system to identify specific clinical findings, to support existing diagnoses, or substantiate listing additional diagnoses in the medical record. S/he should also have knowledge of the official coding conventions and rules established by the WHO, American Medical Association (AMA), and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for assignment of diagnostic and procedural codes.

Basic computer knowledge; able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; able to meet deadlines and prioritize work. Experience with the Epic Electronic Medical Record and 3M Encoder a plus.

If certified

Must meet CEU requirements to maintain certifications that were active upon start date.

Description

Pay Scale: $20.50 - $29.52 per hour

Hamilton Memorial Hospital District has an immediate opening for a full-time Certified Coder in our Health Information Department. At HMHD our mission is to enhance the delivery of healthcare to our community and the surrounding area by providing accessible quality healthcare services. HMHD utilizes the premier electronic medical record system EPIC with My Chart as an amenity for patients and staff.

The Coder reviews, analyzes, and codes diagnostic and procedural information that determines Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance payments. The primary function of this position is to perform the ICD-10-CM and current CPT coding for reimbursement. The coding function is a primary source for data and information used in healthcare today, and promotes provider/patient continuity, accurate database information, and the ability to optimize reimbursement.

The coding function also ensures compliance with established coding guidelines, third party reimbursement policies, regulations, and accreditation guidelines.
