Brief Description of Duties

The Director of Health Services supports the Division of Student Development and Success by providing strategic leadership, clinical oversight, and administrative management of the University's Health Services program. This position directs campus health operations, develops health promotion initiatives, ensures compliance with healthcare regulations and accreditation standards, and collaborates with University leadership and external partners to promote the health and well-being of the campus community.

Working closely with students, faculty, staff, public health agencies, and healthcare providers, the Director advances UDC's commitment to student success, wellness, and a safe learning environment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Direct the planning, administration, and continuous improvement of the University's Health Services program by developing strategic priorities, evaluating program effectiveness, implementing policies and procedures, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare services that support student success and campus wellness.
  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight for Health Services by supervising clinical staff and consultants, supporting patient care and disease management activities, coordinating preventive health initiatives, ensuring appropriate referrals to community providers, and maintaining required clinical certifications, competencies, and standards of practice.
  • Lead campus health promotion and public health initiatives by developing educational programs, coordinating outreach activities, facilitating workshops and training sessions, promoting preventive healthcare, and collaborating with University departments to support student health, mandatory immunization compliance, and wellness education.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, District of Columbia, accreditation, and professional standards by interpreting healthcare regulations, overseeing medical record confidentiality, maintaining accreditation requirements, monitoring credentialing and public health reporting obligations, and representing the University with governmental and external health agencies.
  • Manage the administrative and operational functions of Health Services by overseeing budgets, procurement, medical equipment, supplies, electronic medical records, student health insurance administration, and the maintenance of clinical facilities to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with University leadership, academic departments, healthcare providers, community organizations, and governmental agencies to coordinate health initiatives, strengthen service delivery, and advance institutional health and safety objectives.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and health risk management activities by developing and maintaining emergency response and mitigation plans, coordinating Health Services' role during campus emergencies, and ensuring readiness of personnel, equipment, and clinical resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and operational needs of the Division of Student Development and Success and the University.
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Must possess or be eligible to possess a valid, current District of Columbia license as a Registered Nurse and have a Master's degree in Nursing with certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible nursing/health education experience
  • Recent experience as a healthcare provider and supervisor in a primary care setting, preferably in an educational institution.
  • Significant clinical experience (including public health and/or experience in general health, gynecology, or urgent/emergency care).
  • Knowledge of the unique health, wellness, and developmental needs of college-aged populations, including traditionally underserved and nontraditional students.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong attention to detail regarding recordkeeping and correspondence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving students with diverse backgrounds, interests, goals, and abilities.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and District of Columbia healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, CDC guidance, immunization requirements, and public health reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in health education and health promotion activities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with proficiency in computer applications such as Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (DNP, Ph.D., DrPH, Ed.D., or related healthcare discipline) from an accredited institution.
