Medical Laboratory Technician
The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for obtaining, processing, and analyzing patient specimens to generate accurate laboratory data used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. This role ensures compliance with established laboratory policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. The technician identifies results that require referral to the Pathologist while providing professional, patient-centered service. Obtains, receives, processes, analyzes, and reports accurate laboratory specimen results.
Performs laboratory testing in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Blood Gas, and Phlebotomy. Recognizes abnormal test results and refers critical values to the Pathologist when required. Performs and documents quality control procedures and follows quality assurance guidelines. Screens tests for medical necessity requirements and follows reference laboratory and interface protocols. Follows drug screening and BAT protocols per client-specific requirements.
Operates, monitors, and maintains laboratory equipment safely and correctly. Demonstrates competency in phlebotomy for patients of all ages from neonatal to geriatric. Maintains compliance with infection control practices, universal precautions, and safety regulations. Adheres to hospital policies and regulatory requirements including IDPH, OSHA, CMS, HIPAA, and DHHS standards. Completes required education, attends in-services and staff meetings, and reviews departmental communications.
Adapts to changing workloads and completes patient care duties within scheduled shifts. Communicates respectfully and professionally with patients, families, providers, and staff. Always maintains confidentiality and ethical standards. Promotes teamwork, organizational values, and participates in quality and culture initiatives. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

Current certification required.
Certifications:
Current ASCP or AMT certification required. Must-Have:
Completion of an accredited MLT/CLS or MT/MLS program. Associate or Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Applied Science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science discipline.
