Primary Function:

The ED Tech/Registrar provides essential support in a fast-paced, high-stress environment, assisting medical professionals with patient care, clerical tasks, and maintaining a safe and organized environment.

The ED tech/ Registrar plays a critical role in facilitating smooth operations within the emergency department by ensuring timely and accurate registration, assisting with patient needs, and supporting the healthcare team. Greets patients and families in a professional and compassionate manner, ensuring a positive first impression.

Responsibilities:

• Complies with all Mason District Hospital policies/procedures.
• Performs all responsibilities and duties required as specific to the Emergency Department Scope of Service.
• Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation ofpatient assessment findings, and psychosocial responses to individual patient needs.
• Patient Registration and Intake
• Greet and register patients, collecting demographic, insurance, and medical information.
  
  With verification of insurance information and billing processes.
• Explain necessary forms to patients and their families prior to obtaining signed consent.
• Accurately enter patient data into the electronic health record (EHR) system.
• Maintains confidentiality related to patient, family, client facility and staff in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
• Assists the Emergency Department RN to carry out the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
• Reports findings to the Emergency Department RN after evaluation of patient needs.
• Owns responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
• Keeps the emergency department clean and functional, maintains adequate restock departmental supplies
• Completes daily and weekly department checks, retires expired supplies
• Assists in safe efficient transport of patients within the ED or to other departments
• Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to seek out solutions.
• Is responsible for patient and staff safety through adhering to safety standards and correcting/reporting safety hazards.
• Effectively communicates/collaborates with staff, visitors, and families to promote a healthy and healing work environment.
• Conducts individualized patient triage and reports findings to the RN and Physician, prioritizing collection of data based on individual needs and condition.
• Provides patient care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved.
• Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.
  
  Ensuring that medical equipment is clean, functional, and properly maintained
• Monitoring vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, pulse ox and pain scale.
• Obtain Height and weight for all adult and pediatric patients
• Works directly with the Registered nurse and physician, assisting/ chaperoning during exams, diagnostic testing, specimen collection and treatments.
