DOC Vienna CC Confidential Assistant to the Warden

Position Overview:
The Illinois Department of Corrections at Vienna Correctional Center is seeking a candidate to serve as a Confidential Assistant to the Warden. This position performs highly confidential, sensitive administrative tasks, and serves as the institution's Media liaison and Employee Review Hearing Officer. This position works with IDOC Labor on employee grievances and contract issues. The ideal candidate would have a background in policy and procedure.
An individual who can convey information effectively through both written and oral reporting is a plus. We are looking for a professional candidate looking to be a part of the Administrative Team, working with both staff at the institution level as well as executive staff at the Department of Corrections.
Essential Functions:
- Serves as a confidential assistant
- Serves as liaison on labor/management relation issues which are sensitive and confidential in nature
- Serves as Employee Review Board (ERB) Hearings Officer
- Researches materials and gathers information to respond to letters, phone calls and inquiries from legislature, media, law enforcement and general public regarding sensitive and controversial matters brought to the Warden's attention
- Serves as full-line supervisor
- Serves as Media Liaison
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration
- Requires two (2) years of professional experience in a public or private organization
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience implementing personnel and labor relations policies and practices
- Prefers at least three (3) years of working with and maintaining confidential information
- Prefers at least two (2) years of working experience in a correctional and/or similar like setting
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience interpreting labor agreements
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience researching and gathering information to respond to letters, phone calls, and inquiries from the public, public or private entities, and the media
- Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience serving as a media liaison and/or similar like position in a public or private organization
Conditions of Employment:
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited
- Requires incumbent to become a Notary within the first four (4) months of being placed in the position and requires incumbent to maintain active Notary status once it's obtained
- This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest
- Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department
