Job Description: The Assurance Senior, Technology Risk Assurance is responsible for assisting in the planning of the IT audit engagement and executing the IT risk assessment and control evaluation to determine the impact of controls on financial audit procedures. In this role, the Senior will design and execute procedures to understand and test the client IT environment and related IT general controls (ITGCs), including IT system logical access, change management, and IT operational controls, as well as testing business process controls, key reports, and information produced by entity (IPE) across various client industry environments.
Additionally, the Senior will provide training, mentoring, and technical guidance to IS Assurance Associates.
- Apply knowledge of IT risks and controls by understanding and documenting client environments and the impact of IT on audit risks.
- Identify controls that mitigate IT-related risks in the client environment.
- Obtain and document an understanding of the client control environment, design test procedures, conduct and document tests of controls.
- Document results of procedures, deficiencies, and assess the impact on the overall financial reporting control environment.
- Review client information and control documentation for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate testing, ensuring all supporting information is documented in work papers.
- Identify complex issues and bring them to the attention of the team and management for resolution.
- Communicate with client areas to improve processes, strengthen controls, mitigate risks, and increase efficiency.
- Develop and maintain relationships with client personnel and management.
- Set deadlines and execute procedures and oversight to meet deadlines.
- Support teamwork by delivering on commitments and providing feedback on associate work.
- Review associate work, provide feedback, and detail‑review all procedures performed.
- Coaching and teaching associate team members to provide on‑the‑job learning.
- Track status, schedule, and budget for reporting to the team and the client.
- Apply knowledge of auditing theory, professional skepticism, and BDO audit manuals.
- Apply auditing standards and methodology to various client situations.
- Identify complex issues, including deviations, and collaborate with the team and client, seeking counsel from BDO technical experts.
- Determine when testing may be reduced or expanded and provide counsel to audit team members.
- Prepare and communicate results of procedures to the client.
- Plan and execute IT audits, obtaining an understanding of IT environment, risk, and controls.
- Build knowledge base by reviewing methodology, standards, and regulations.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of client documentation, with appropriate testing.
- Apply BDO methodology, industry standards, and guidance to client situations.
- Establish deadlines and oversee procedures to meet them.
- Support teamwork by delivering on commitments to team members and clients.
- Provide feedback and detailed review of associate work.
- Coaching and teaching associate team members.
- Track status, schedule, and budget for reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Computer Science, or Information Systems – required.
- Master’s degree in Information Systems or related advanced degree – preferred.
- More than two (2) years of IT audit and/or related risk and controls experience – required.
- More than one (1) year of supervisory experience – required.
- Public accounting experience – highly desired.
- Proficiency with PCAOB and AICPA audit standards – required.
- Experience with audit test of design, implementation, and operating effectiveness for public companies – preferred.
- Experience reviewing and testing third‑party attestation (SOC) reports – preferred.
- CPA, CISA, CISM, CRISC, CGEIT, CISSP, and/or CFE – strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite – required.
