Position Overview
The Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF) seeks a Computer Scientist to enable AI for science by building agentic systems that plan and execute scientific workflows on ALCF systems. The role will develop services / APIs that allow AI models to interact with simulations, data, and job schedulers, ensuring high usability, stability, and adaptability.
Responsibilities• Design, implement, and maintain agentic workflow systems on ALCF HPC resources.
• Develop APIs and services that bridge AI models with simulations, data stores, and job schedulers.
• Collaborate with science application teams, academia, industry, and national labs to solve large‑scale scientific challenges.
• Contribute to broader scientific initiatives and maintain high‑quality, production‑grade software.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience, or Master’s degree and at least 3 years of experience, or PhD and no additional experience required.
- Educational background in computer science, computational science, physical science, engineering, or related field.
- Strong programming skills in one or more languages (Python, C/C++).
- Experience with at least one AI framework (e.g., PyTorch).
- Experience with large language models and agentic frameworks.
- Ability to create, maintain, and support high‑quality software.
- Proficiency with version control systems such as Git.
- Collaborative experience in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Experience with complex, large‑scale scientific workflows.
- Experience running simulations or AI workflows on supercomputers.
The expected hiring range for this position is $94,486.00 – $. The final offer will be based on qualifications and other factors.
