Responsibilities
  • Provide help desk support via phone, resolving general technology needs and coordinating service requests, referrals, and escalations.
  • Document all requests, work, and communication in the IT ticketing/service‑management tool.
  • Install software, resolve desktop issues, and assist with wired and wireless network connections.
  • Coordinate account creation, deletion, and modification; perform logon/logoff procedures for mainframes, servers, and the network.
  • Review service requests, conduct customer call‑back activities, update tickets, and take corrective action when appropriate.
  • Test, document, and support implementation of new or changed services, tools, or applications.
  • Assist with restoring applications and data from backup media, and identify IP addresses for network connectivity issues.
  • Serve as a single point of coordination for IT support across departments and mentor junior technicians.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High‑school diploma or equivalent and five years of experience with basic computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, with three years in a user‑support role; or at least one year as an IT Technician III in Nevada State service; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of commercially available operating systems and applications, help‑desk application configuration, system and peripheral device monitoring, and user password security.
  • Working knowledge of database principles, network domains, and login procedures; web browser capabilities and intranet/Internet distinctions.
  • General knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., Pascal, COBOL, Natural, Fortran, BASIC, html) and network troubleshooting.
  • Ability to create and use disk images, provide documentation of systems and programs, perform testing support, restore data from backup media, and complete all required lower‑level IT Technician tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior customer service experience in a technical or service‑oriented environment.
  • Previous IT Help Desk or user support experience in a high‑volume setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical users.
  • Independent work ability with limited supervision and sound judgment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, capable of planning, prioritizing, and managing multiple tasks.
  • Experience supporting enterprise IT environments (e.g., Active Directory, domains, imaging, backup/restore, ticketing systems).
  • Experience as a lead worker, mentor, or trainer to peers or less‑experienced staff.
  • Higher‑education environment experience and a commitment to collaboration, respect, and customer service.
Salary

Grade 32 Step 1 – $56,689.20 per year.
