Job Summary

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for IT Technician 2, Information Technology (R0152660). This position provides help desk, customer service, ticket tracking, field support and account administration under general supervision at the University’s Office of Information Technology.

Responsibilities
  • Help Desk Support:
    Identify and resolve problems, record calls in help desk application, write work orders, change backup media, unlock accounts, reset passwords, and follow security procedures.
  • Customer Service:
    Provide excellent service to faculty, staff and students; listen to customers, offer solutions, and keep them updated.
  • Ticket Tracking, Review and Follow‑Up:
    Review service requests, conduct call‑back activities, update tickets and provide follow‑up services.
  • Field Support:
    Install software and resolve general desktop issues.
  • Account Administration:
    Create, delete or disable user accounts; organize data for audits as directed.
  • Implementation Assignments:
    Test, document and support new or changed services, tools or applications.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High‑school graduation or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience with computer systems, operating systems, applications and peripherals, with at least one year in an IT user‑support role; or one year as IT TechnicianI in Nevada State service; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware, software, peripherals and current technology; help desk applications for change/problem management.
  • General knowledge of commercial operating systems and applications; understanding of computer system principles, security concepts and user password practices.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with higher‑level IT staff and end users; ability to monitor inventory, request supplies and produce technical documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Customer‑service experience in a technical or service‑oriented environment.
  • IT help desk or user support experience in a high‑volume setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical users.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Experience leading, mentoring or training peers or less‑experienced staff.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
