IT Field Technician

An IT Field Technician provides on-site and remote technical support across Iron Oak Energy's industrial operations, ensuring reliable technology services for end users, production environments, and critical infrastructure. This position supports three primary locations—one in Wedron, IL, and two in Tomah, WI—and serves as the local IT presence for day-to-day operations. Responsibilities include troubleshooting hardware and software issues, installing and maintaining IT equipment, supporting industrial network infrastructure, and assisting with larger IT projects and outages.

This role requires strong technical skills, excellent customer service, and the ability to work independently in an industrial environment. Travel to Tomah, WI is expected biweekly with daily onsite support at Wedron, IL.

IT Field Technician

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site technical support for end users across multiple industrial facilities.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve desktop, laptop, printer, mobile device, and peripheral issues.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows workstations, software, and hardware.
  • Support basic network troubleshooting, including switches, wireless access points, cabling, and connectivity issues.
  • Assist with deployment, replacement, and maintenance of network infrastructure and industrial IT equipment.
  • Install, terminate, test, and label copper and fiber network cabling as required.
  • Provide hands-and-feet support for senior engineers during infrastructure projects, outages, and system upgrades.
  • Support IP camera systems, access control devices, badge readers, and related physical security technologies.
  • Perform workstation imaging, hardware replacements, and user onboarding/offboarding activities.
  • Configure and deploy monitors, docking stations, VoIP phones, and other end-user equipment.
  • Respond to and resolve help desk tickets while maintaining established service level expectations.
  • Document work performed, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions within the IT ticketing system.
  • Assist with inventory management, including receiving, tracking, and maintaining IT hardware and spare equipment.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors for hardware repairs, ISP issues, and equipment installations.
  • Maintain IT closets, network racks, and equipment rooms in an organized and professional manner.
  • Follow Iron Oak Energy IT standards, policies, cybersecurity requirements, and change management procedures.
  • Support Microsoft 365 applications, Active Directory user administration, and standard business software.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on IT equipment to minimize operational downtime.
  • Travel regularly between the Wedron, IL and Tomah, WI facilities, with occasional travel to additional company locations as business needs require.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours support during planned maintenance or emergency outages.

This position follows a standard Monday through Friday business schedule; however, flexibility is required to support production operations, planned maintenance windows, emergency outages, and occasional weekend or after-hours work. Regular travel between the Wedron, IL facility and two Tomah, WI facilities is required. Additional travel to other Iron Oak Energy locations may be required based on operational needs.

IT Field Technician Qualifications /

Skills:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Information Technology, Computer Networking, or related field preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience in desktop support, field services, or IT infrastructure support preferred
  • Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, mining, or production environments is a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, networking, and hardware troubleshooting preferred
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background screening and drug testing, if required by company policy
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities
  • Experience supporting Windows desktop operating systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Active Directory
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, switching, wireless networking, and DHCP/DNS
