The Village of Gilberts, Illinois is an established, but rapidly growing, suburban community of 8,400 residents located in northern Kane County. Due to an additional budgeted full‑time position beginning in 2026, the Village is seeking the next hard working and self‑motivated Public Works Laborer for our expanding Streets Division. This full‑time, entry level position involves on‑the‑job training to perform a variety of maintenance work including the upkeep of building facilities, groundskeeping, and street repair to name a few.
Individuals in this position are expected to operate a variety of equipment as required to accomplish their tasks. This position will report directly to the Public Works Crew Leader.
Public Works Laborers have the unique responsibility of keeping the Village a beautiful and desirable place to live and visit. Whether they are working on road repairs, new park amenities, or landscaping at our many parks, Public Works Laborers have some of the greatest impacts on the Village and the quality of life it provides to its residents. This position is perfect for someone who wants to make an impact on the world and people around them.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and valid Illinois drivers‑license with a CDL Class A, or B w/Airbrake and Trailer endorsement or ability to obtain one within six months of hire.
- High School Diploma or GED
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate would possess prior public works experience, particularly in streets or parks. Ideally possessing a Class A CDL or Class B w/Airbrake and trailer endorsement. They would possess some basic public works maintenance experience in: mowing, pot hole repair, park maintenance, and snow plowing. Additionally, the ideal candidate would have experience working with various equipment like skid steers, backhoes, tractors, and other large machinery.
The expected starting annual salary for this position is ($50,000 – $74,369) DOQ with excellent benefits including vacation time, medical/dental/vision insurance, and IMRF participation. This is a full‑time non‑exempt position.
