Position Overview
Superintendent – Albany, IL
As Superintendent, you will lead day‑to‑day operations at the assigned grain facility, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable performance while developing employees and supporting local growers and customers.
Responsibilities- Supervise and develop all staff involved in grain and terminal operations, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Oversee staffing, scheduling, and job development to meet operational demands.
- Manage inventory, maintenance, efficiency initiatives, quality control, and customer service.
- Lead the company’s safety program: conduct monthly safety meetings, set safety goals, monitor compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations, and perform safety audits.
- Develop, communicate, and manage staff performance expectations aligned with company goals, including promotions, corrective actions, and terminations as needed.
- Work with management to develop and revise budget forecasts and improve financial performance.
- Conduct quality internal audits, review and modify PSM & MOC as necessary, and ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
- Coordinate with departmental staff (e.g., Marine Services, Merchandisers, CTLC) to support barge, rail, and loading/transfer operations.
- Participate in the trainee program, coaching trainees through curriculum and checklists.
- Perform other duties as assigned, such as walk‑throughs, inventory monitoring, maintenance needs, and housekeeping.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; preferred in Agriculture or Technical Systems Management.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in various aspects of grain facility operations.
- Working knowledge of cost structures, blending analysis, safety, efficiency, product quality, preventive maintenance, OSHA, EPA, freight, and marketing/sales.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, oral and written communication, decision‑making, conflict management, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent time‑management, organizational, and prioritization abilities with flexibility for changing priorities.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to coach, mentor, and lead staff.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including bending, stooping, twisting, crouching, crawling, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting up to 50 lbs. continuously or occasionally.
- Work indoors and outdoors in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions; use personal protective equipment as required.
- Perform tasks in confined spaces, on barge surfaces, railcars, and other industrial environments.
- Work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and alternate shifts as needed.
- Travel up to 15%.
Base pay range: $69,490.00 – $91,433.00 (actual pay varies by experience and location).
