Fertigation Technician
Job Type: Full‑Time;
Non‑Exempt
Shift: Tuesday - Saturday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Starting Hourly Rate: $19.50
Location: Litchfield, IL
The Fertigation Technician works in conjunction with the Fertigation Supervisor to oversee and implement all irrigation and fertigation activities across the entire grow. The role may also require working in the garden with Cultivation Technicians to perform similar duties as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Check and balance EC & pH of stock tanks according to company SOPs.
- Clean and sanitize nutrient tanks, pumps, and filters as needed.
- Maintain and ensure irrigation and fertigation equipment is in good working order.
- Comply with company and product label safety procedures and use appropriate PPE.
- Take nutrient samples to be sent out for analysis.
- Maintain proper storage and sanitation of all tools and equipment.
- Meticulous record keeping of all nutrient use.
- Work closely with the grow team to ensure the irrigation/fertigation plan is implemented and maintained.
- Maintain inventory of all fertilizers on site and ensure concentrate tanks are adequately filled.
- Respond to system alarms and diagnose/troubleshoot issues quickly and effectively.
- Perform regular calibration of nutrient testing instruments.
- Responsible for the installation and maintenance of general irrigation equipment: valves, emitters, drip stakes, drip tubing, and bench lines.
- Monitor soil moisture content and obtain water samples for testing.
- Able to work variable shifts to meet business requirements, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- 21+ years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and emergencies.
- Hard worker and team player.
- Understanding of and adherence to state and company regulations.
- Analytical skills to identify plant health problems.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Physical aptitude for manual labor required for commercial grow management.
- Accountable, proactive, and detail oriented.
- Preferable agricultural or green‑industry experience; horticulture or plant science degree a plus.
- Basic knowledge of irrigation systems and hydroponic solution formulation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent time‑management and prioritization skills.
- Requires prolonged sitting, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Must stand for extended periods, lift regularly, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Close visual focus required.
- Works with arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate small objects.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb.
- Must pass a respirator fit test.
- Allergen exposure: dust, pollen, and plant pathogens.
- Cleaning solvents, such as high volumes of isopropyl alcohol.
- Daily use of PPE: masks, hair nets, beard covers, respirators, boot covers, scrubs, non‑slip shoes, and Tyvek suits as necessary.
- Exposure to loud noises from compressors, packaging equipment, and alarms.
- Exposure to OSHA‑approved CO2 levels during manufacturing procedures.
- High stress tolerance; adaptable to an ever‑changing environment and flexible.
