Overview
Join our team in Oquawka, IL as a Barge Facility Technician. You will work at a river terminal, loading and unloading barges and trucks, maintaining grain quality, and performing general labor tasks.
Responsibilities- Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
- Read drafts, open and close lids, and tie off barges as part of deckhand duties.
- Perform barge loading duties to meet draft and quality requirements, and oversee deckhand(s) where applicable.
- Transfer, load, and move grain to the appropriate location.
- Maintain grain quality while stored or transferred.
- Complete documentation timely, accurately, and legibly.
- Perform general clean‑up tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and other housekeeping responsibilities.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and repairs where applicable.
- Potentially unload barges, clean barges, move products to storage, load trucks using heavy equipment, load rail, load products to specifications, operate and shut down dryers, and operate a variety of heavy equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Experience:
None required; preferred 1 year of experience in an industrial environment with a dependable work record. - Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, and the ability to interact with all levels of people both inside and outside the organization.
- Ability to complete documentation requirements and follow directions.
- Logical thought process to interpret oral and written instructions and troubleshoot problems.
- Ability to work well independently and within a team environment.
- Skill with using appropriate tools for assigned tasks.
- Focus on exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.
- Maintain standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, crouching, crawling, kneeling, and squatting for continuous periods.
- Climb stairs and ladders to significant heights.
- Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally or continuously, depending on daily needs.
- Work in confined spaces, on barge surfaces, on railcars, and near equipment such as vibrators.
- Work in extreme weather conditions, including high dust levels.
- Operate under the safety requirements of PPE, PFT, fit testing, FRA, and DOT, as applicable.
- Work rotating 12‑hour shifts, including non‑standard business hours, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
$17.00 – $25.00 per hour, actual pay may vary depending on location, job‐related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience.
