Overview
This position is responsible for performing laboratory work assigned by a Chemist or Chemical Engineer in support of new product process development. This support includes evaluating changes proposed by R&D and the Business Group to specifications and processes.
Responsibilities- Prepares equipment and carries out laboratory simulations of plant and new processes using standard or non-standard procedures.
- Conducts laboratory experiments under the direction of a SBU Specialist.
- Completes preliminary analysis and interpretation of test results. Prepares reports, memos, presentations, etc., and/or enters data into database(s) to communicate results to appropriate parties. Handles requests and reports results in a timely manner.
- Analyzes raw materials, intermediates and products as required.
- Maintains records of experimental work in laboratory notebook and compiles data in prescribed form.
- Purchases, maintains, and/or obtains adequate inventory of raw materials and lab supplies for testing and work area. Maintains work area in a neat, clean and safe condition.
- Maintains adequate level of specific as well as general technical expertise through training, seminars, etc., to support required activity.
- May blend components and/or develop new or modify existing formulations to meet objectives and may analyze various blends and base oils to determine physical and chemical properties.
- Responsible for safety, time and scheduling, good housekeeping and work relationships with others.
- Assures that complete ISO documentation is maintained on all ISO or quality related activities. Participates in ISO related activities and maintains an up-to-date understanding of the ISO function.
- Potential occasional travel.
LAB TECHNICIAN
Chemistry degree preferred
Education & Experience Minimums- Formal wet lab training (trade school)
- OR
- Minimum of 2 years working experience in a chemical laboratory
- Completion of advanced high school chemistry
- OR
- Minimum of 2 semesters of college level chemistry
- Demonstrates computer literacy with regard to Afton’s routine applications
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to attend to details
- Able to complete basic laboratory procedures with intermediate to minimal supervision
- Able to demonstrate basic knowledge of safe laboratory practices and procedures
- Able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of laboratory terminology and basic equipment use
- Multitasking
Pay Range: $60,000-$85,000
