ABOUT THE POSITION

Under the direction and supervision of the Production Supervisor and Weld Lead, this role involves welding metal components with welding equipment to fit, join, fabricate, and/or repair heavy and large custom mechanical products per specifications and in accordance with the production schedule.

Key Deliverables
  • Adhere to all safety rules and perform work at a quality level.
  • Read and understand assigned blueprints before starting a project.
  • Participate in process and product development and improvement programs.
  • Accurately inspect metal prior to welding to ensure clean welds.
  • Perform grinding operations that comply with company standards.
  • Support the team by providing an efficient layout of plant equipment to ensure proper welding.
  • Inspect welds for quality and proper weld.
  • Maintain welding machines by keeping them clean and changing liners in the welding guns.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
  • Layout welding of plant equipment for metal parts.
  • Perform MIG welding safely and pass tests.
  • Inspect metal prior to welding for smoothness and acceptability; grind as needed to presentable state.
  • Use welding equipment to burn, cut, and fit metal as required.
  • Keep work area clean and neat.
  • Ensure welding machine settings are appropriate for the work to be performed.
  • Safely use cranes and forklifts.
  • Know and use PPE requirements for welding, including hood, filter shades, and arm/body protection.
  • Read and understand weld symbols.
  • Select proper rods or wires for each welding job.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and safety rules at all times.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Trade school or community college coursework preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience with heavy equipment fabrication and fitment welding.
  • Computer experience desired, particularly the ability to use a mouse.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform all grinder tasks required.
  • Ability to properly and safely MIG weld required.
  • Ability to read and understand weld symbols required.

NOTE: This position is responsible for certain internal control responsibilities. These responsibilities are verbally communicated to the incumbent and periodic feedback is provided as it relates to the performance of these responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding, and machining operations, outside weather conditions, and risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or cold temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud;

hearing protection may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
