Position Summary

The Development Director plans and executes strategic efforts for fundraising and outreach to support the financial needs and growth of the community

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet the financial goals of the community, including event sponsorship, capital campaigns, major gift cultivation, and annual and planned giving programs (bequests, trusts, estate gifts).
  • Build, cultivate, and maintain relationships with residents, families, board members, staff members, donors, and community partners.
  • Serve as a community ambassador to build partnerships and collaborate with local businesses, community groups, government leaders, and other organizations to enhance awareness, visibility, generate support, and promote the community’s mission and values.
  • Ensure donors and sponsors are recognized, appreciated and informed about how their contributions are being used by the community.
  • Identify, research, and apply for grants. Provide compelling grant proposals and reports, ensuring compliance with all requirements.
  • Develop and manage the department’s budget, ensuring that fundraising efforts are cost-effective and aligned with the organization’s financial goals.
  • Work to develop long-term sustainable funding strategies that create a diverse funding base through a mix of fundraising activities, donations, and grants, to ensure the community’s growth and success.
  • Maintain CRM/database and other related software platforms, track fundraising metrics, and provide regular updates on fundraising and outreach efforts to the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Participate in executive leadership team meetings and support community wide and division/department efforts.
  • Collaborate with Marketing/Communication Director on donor messaging, case statement and impact reports, and community newsletter and communications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of fundraising, marketing, or communications experience, preferably in senior living, hospitality, or healthcare
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Knowledge of planned giving and experience with major gifts and campaigns preferred

  • Maintain confidentiality of information and conversations, including resident information
  • Strong organizational, and follow-up skills
  • Ability to work and make good decisions independently
  • Proficient computer skills, experience working with CRM systems
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events and appointments
Physical Requirements
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours
  • Frequent interruptions
  • Interact with staff members, residents, families, and other visitors under all conditions and circumstances
  • May be required to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and temporarily in emergencies and/or to ensure proper care for all residents
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
