Outpatient RN CAP 1 is an entry‑level designation within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). The role is accountable for providing and coordinating clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. Responsibilities include delegating appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff (RNs, LVN/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians) and participating in decision‑making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes and facility operations.
PrincipalDuties and Responsibilities
- Perform essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or collaborating Registered Nurses.
- Collect and analyze patient data pre‑, during‑, and post‑hemodialysis, document in the patient medical record, and modify treatment plans as needed, notifying the appropriate team leader.
- Assess and document patient/family learning needs, and provide initial and ongoing education.
- Collaborate with direct and ancillary staff to deliver safe and effective hemodialysis therapy.
- Administer medications per prescription or approved algorithms, documenting justification and effectiveness.
- Initiate or assist with emergency response measures.
- Serve as a resource for the health care team, participate in staff training and orientation of new staff.
- Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping; reschedule missed or insufficient labs.
- Identify expected outcomes, document and update nursing assessment and plan of care in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team.
- Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options.
- Complete CAP requirements to advance.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation; equipment or coworkers may provide assistance.
- Frequent, prolonged standing and bending required.
- Occasional movement of equipment up to 200 lbs; lifting chemicals and water solutions up to 30 lbs as high as 5 feet.
- Work environment: temperature‑controlled healthcare facility with moderate noise levels.
- Potential exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
- Desk work, computer use, interaction with patients, hospital staff, and physicians.
- Travel to training sites or other facilities may be required.
- Essential functions may be performed at other locations with similar demands.
- Oversee Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and RNs as Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge after completing all FKC education and training requirements.
- Minimum 9 months RN experience; minimum 3 months chronic/acute hemodialysis experience required.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current state licensure.
- Current or successful completion of CPR/BLS certification.
- Must meet state practice requirements where employed.
- Entry‑level RN with less than 2 years of nephrology nursing experience.
- Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience is preferred.
Hourly Rate: $33.00 – $56.00
