Nurse Practitioner/Physician's Assistant - Inpatient

Job SummaryThe Nurse Practitioner is a professional staff member who provides healthcare evaluation and treatment to patients. The Nurse Practitioner is under the collaborative supervision of the physician.
Department & ShiftDepartment:
Multiple including ED, Med-Surg, ICU, OB, etc.
Hours & Shift Requirements:
Full Time. Variable days Monday – Friday. Must be flexible for start and end time of shift. Some call and weekends. Includes weekend rotations.
- Practice under the supervision of the Hospitalist.
- Perform physical examinations, laboratory tests and health screening measures.
- Teach patients all aspects of health care.
- Counsel patients and families in family issues as appropriate.
- Assess and manage illness under guidelines approved by medical staff.
- Refer patients to other health care providers or community agencies when appropriate.
- Contribute to devising, executing, and periodically reviewing written policies/clinical protocols governing the services provided by the hospital.
- Physical strength to perform CPR (bed/floor), lift, push/pull 60-300 pounds with assistance) as often as 20 times per 8-12 hours and perform, constant walking, twisting, turning, and stretching maneuvers in patient care and use of patient care equipment.
- Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks:
- Floor to waist - 40 pounds
- 14 to waist - 50 pounds
- Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds
- Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds
- Carry 40 pounds for 30 feet
- Push 40 pounds/force for 30 feet
- Pull 40 pounds/force for 10 feet
- Keen mental faculties to observe patient status change.
- Communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
- Emotional stability conducive to dealing with a high stress level for 8-12 hours at a time associated with caring for acute patients/SO, fast paced physical activity, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and their families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physician, and other health care workers.
Reports to the Hospitalist and Chief Operating Officer.
