Primary Function:

The Clinical Supervisor (RN) provides clinical leadership, coordination, and supervision of nursing and clinical support staff within the organization's Rural Health Clinics and outpatient practices. This role is responsible for oversight of clinical staff including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified medical assistants, and medical assistants.

Working under the guidance of the Rural Health Clinic Director, the Clinical Supervisor (RN) supports the effective day-to-day clinical operations of the medical clinics. The position promotes high quality patient care, regulatory compliance, efficient clinical workflows, and staff development while contributing to the achievement of organizational goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership
  • Provides clinical oversight, guidance, and support to nursing and clinical support staff.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for staff regarding patient care questions, clinical processes, and professional development.
  • Collaborates with providers and interdisciplinary team members to support high quality patient care and positive patient outcomes.
  • Provides clinical leadership that promotes a respectful, collaborative, and patient-centered care environment.
  • Staff Supervision and Development
  • Supervises clinical staff including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified medical assistants, and medical assistants.
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and orientation of clinical staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and supports staff development and continuing education.
  • Verifies and maintains competency documentation for all clinical staff.
  • Provides education, coaching, and mentorship to clinical team members.
  • Operational Support
  • Develops and manages clinical staffing schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels and efficient clinic operations.
  • Assigns clinical staff responsibilities to support daily clinic workflow and patient care needs.
  • Monitors patient flow and clinic efficiency to support timely patient care and productive provider schedules.
  • Assists in resolving clinical staff concerns and collaborates with the Director of Clinic Operations to address personnel matters when needed.
  • Quality, Compliance, and Clinical Standards
  • Ensures clinical staff comply with established clinical standards, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitors compliance with applicable regulatory standards, quality metrics, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Reviews medical records and documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to clinical standards.
  • Educates staff regarding quality improvement measures and documentation expectations.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities, committees, and interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate.
  • Policies and Clinical Procedures
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical policies, procedures, and protocols in collaboration with leadership.
  • Maintains clinical policies and procedures relevant to nursing and clinical support staff functions.

    Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a Registered Nurse (RN) degree.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or related healthcare field preferred. Equivalent leadership experience may be considered.
  • Active, unrestricted Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Prior clinical experience in ambulatory care or physician practice settings preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems within 60 days of hire.
