Program Specialist – Seasonal (Non-Exempt)

Rate: $13.00

Pay Grade: SEA | Starting salary based on prior experience and education.

Location: Jordan Creek Park, Concord Township, OH 44077

Position

Description:

Under the direction of the Outdoor Education Manager, the Seasonal Program Specialist supports the delivery of educational and recreational programming for K‑12 students and public groups. The position primarily assists with summer camp operations from June through August and helps facilitate outdoor recreation skills, environmental science activities, and general program support.

Additional Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Assisting with the delivery of educational programs for schools, camps, and the general public.
  • Supporting daily activities and supervision during summer camps.
  • Assisting with front desk coverage at the Environmental Learning Center as needed.
  • Serving as a room host for facility rentals at the Environmental Learning Center, Lakefront Lodge, and Painesville Township Park.
  • Providing support during Special Events, including setup, activities, and guest engagement.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Experience working with or supervising children required.
  • Prior experience in outdoor recreation, education, or environmental activities preferred but not required.
Position Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of outdoor recreation activities and native Ohio plants and animals (or willingness to learn).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Comfort speaking in front of small and large groups.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for working with children and families.
  • Ability to be self‑motivated, flexible, creative, and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to inspire interest in program topics and represent the park district positively.
  • Ability to interact professionally with the public, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to safely use ladders, small tools, and other equipment as trained.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Agency’s liability policy.
  • Background check required.
