Horticulturist / Gardener
Full-Time | St. Louis Area | Year-Round Opportunity with Snow Removal
Love plants? We'd love to talk.
We're looking for a Horticulturist / Gardener who knows plants, enjoys working outdoors, and wants to see the results of their work every day.
This is a hands-on horticulture role with the opportunity to lead and work alongside landscape crews while caring for beautiful, high-profile properties throughout the St. Louis area.
You'll work with native plants, perennials, seasonal color, trees, shrubs, and established garden spaces. We're looking for someone who can look at a plant and recognize when something isn't right, understand what it needs, and take action.
If you studied horticulture, plant science, or a related field and want a career that gets you out from behind a desk, this could be a great fit. A degree is helpful, but hands-on horticultural knowledge and experience matter just as much.
What You'll Do- Lead and work alongside crews to maintain healthy, beautiful landscapes
- Provide hands‑on care for native, perennial, seasonal, and ornamental plantings
- Monitor plant health and identify stress, disease, pests, nutrient deficiencies, and other concerns
- Determine the right care and treatment based on plant needs and seasonal conditions
- Properly prune and maintain trees, shrubs, perennials, and other plant material
- Plant and maintain seasonal, native, and perennial plants
- Weed, mulch, edge, deadhead, divide, and maintain garden beds
- Apply fertilizers and soil amendments based on plant needs
- Monitor watering needs, soil conditions, and overall growing conditions
- Guide crews on proper horticultural practices and help ensure work meets quality standards
- Take ownership of the health, appearance, and details of assigned landscapes
- Identify horticultural concerns and opportunities for improvement before they become bigger issues
- Communicate property needs and recommendations with Account and Operations Managers
- Safely operate and maintain gardening and landscape equipment
- Keep gardens and green spaces clean, healthy, and looking their best
- Jump in alongside the team to complete the landscape work needed to keep properties at their best
- Assist with snow and ice removal during the winter months
- Follow company safety standards and horticultural best practices
- Perform other duties as assigned
You don't need to check every box. We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in horticulture who is excited to continue learning and growing.
We'd love to see:
- Experience or education in horticulture, plant science, gardening, native landscaping, grounds management, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of plants and how to care for them
- Knowledge of native and regional plant material
- Ability to identify common plant health issues, including pests, disease, environmental stress, and nutrient deficiencies
- Understanding of pruning, planting, soil health, fertilization, and seasonal plant care
- Interest in native plants and sustainable horticultural practices
- Confidence leading and working alongside a crew
- Strong attention to detail and pride in your work
- Ability to work independently and make decisions in the field
- Good communication skills and a team-first attitude
- Willingness to work outdoors throughout the year
A bachelor's degree in horticulture, plant science, landscape horticulture, or a related field is preferred but not required. Relevant experience and demonstrated plant knowledge are highly valued.
What Your Day Could Look LikeOne day you might be pruning and evaluating plant health. Another could include leading a crew through seasonal garden maintenance, identifying why a group of plants isn't thriving, planting new material, or making sure a high-visibility garden looks its best.
You'll get to work with plants, solve problems, lead people, and see the impact of your work.
