About the RolePosition function:
Caldic is a leading North American food ingredient distribution and solution provider. This role reports to the Quality Manager – USA and is responsible for developing, leading, and managing Quality policies, programs, and procedures that ensure consistent delivery of the highest quality ingredients and food products.
Scope:
Based in University Park, the individual is responsible for Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and performance of Caldic North America’s co‑manufacturers and suppliers. The position oversees vendor and supplier approval and maintenance, supports internal audits, and serves as a backup for the Quality Specialist. It interacts daily with operational supervisors, managers, purchasing, customer service, regulatory, R&D, and sales teams, and routinely meets suppliers, customers, and vendor management teams.
- Lead and support projects focusing on continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee QA and QC functions for Caldic North American co‑manufacturing facilities.
- Manage vendor and manufacturer approval and maintenance; assist with supplier audits.
- Drive Total First Pass Quality (TFPQ), review raw material and finished product non‑conformances, and customer complaints; implement CI initiatives to address trends.
- Provide updated documents and support to co‑manufacturing facilities; maintain open communication and partnership.
- Integrate quality programs between suppliers and Caldic’s quality systems.
- Support quality control, assurance, and regulatory team members with co‑manufacturers and suppliers.
- Oversee customer complaint investigations related to product quality/safety; liaise with customers and ensure timely resolution.
- Member of North America’s HACCP and SQF management teams.
- Participate in monthly internal inspections at USA facilities for HACCP and SQF programs.
- Analyze data and create accessible reports to support decision‑making; provide regular management reports.
- Collaborate with production, operations, and other departments to implement quality process improvements and systems enhancing product quality and operational efficiency.
- Develop and manage expense budget.
- Travel between facilities as required.
- BS in Food Science or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of QA/QC experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- Experience with HACCP programs; experience with SQF is an asset.
- Experience with regulatory or certification bodies such as FDA, Kosher, Organic.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing operations, sanitation principles, and pest control.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with North American regulatory and certification bodies: CFIA, FDA, Organic, NHPD, Kosher, etc.
- Strong organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Proven leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license.
