Postdoctoral Appointee – Advanced Photon Source (APS) POLAR Beamline
The Advanced Photon Source (APS) POLAR beamline is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to develop and employ advanced high-pressure instrumentation for x-ray spectroscopy and scattering techniques. The successful candidate will leverage fabrication capabilities available in the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) to tailor the high-pressure sample environment in diamond anvil cells.
Responsibilities- Advance toroidal anvil capabilities to extend the maximum achievable pressure ranges.
- Deposit designed electrical circuits to create advanced multi-modal experiments that combine electrical transport with x-ray techniques.
- Conduct experiments focusing on strongly correlated and topological systems, primarily at the APS POLAR and HPCAT beamlines.
- PhD level education in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Zero to five years of employment experience.
- Demonstrated experience with high pressure diamond anvil cell technology.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to model Argonne's Core Values:
Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
- Experience with x-ray techniques and/or synchrotron experiments.
- Experience with nanofabrication tools (particularly focused ion beam and lithography).
- Background in condensed matter physics.
- Familiarity with scientific programming languages such as python.
Job Characteristics: Postdoctoral Appointee, Long-Term (Fixed Term), Full time. Salary range: $72,879.00 - $ (general guideline; actual offer based on qualifications and responsibilities).
