The Engler and Owoyele research groups, in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory, are seeking a Post Doctoral Researcher to investigate materials and membrane design for the recovery of rare earth elements and to apply AI/ML methods to improve an electrodialysis process. The position is funded by an LSU internal seed grant and will be located at Argonne National Laboratory for a duration of two years.
Responsibilities- Conduct research on membranes with high selectivity toward rare earth elements, including design, synthesis, and characterization, and apply AI/ML methods to improve material design and the electrodialysis process (50%).
- Collaborate with experts in polymer and ligand design, membrane fabrication and processing, synchrotron‑based characterization, AI/ML modeling, and TEA/LCA analysis (40%).
- Write reports to the project sponsor, prepare manuscripts, and deliver presentations at scientific and engineering conferences (10%).
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related field.
- Experience with organic synthesis and an interest in developing AI/ML models.
