Postdoctoral Research Associate, DACL

Job Overview

The Center for Biomechanical and Rehabilitation (CBRE) Laboratory at the University of the District of Columbia is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate with a research interest in gait and balance (namely falls) in aging individuals. This full‑time, one‑year position (with possibility of renewal) is a temporary/training role within a Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL) sponsored project regarding the Safe at Home (SAH) falls prevention program.

The Associate will conduct experiments, analyze data, develop models, prepare manuscripts and presentations, assist the CBRE Lab PI with project reports, and support independent research activities. Remuneration will be competitive and based on qualifications.

• Conduct high‑quality research in the study of gait and balance in aging individuals.
• Collaborate closely with graduate and undergraduate students on joint projects.
• Participate in teaching and outreach activities and programs.
• Present and publish research findings at conferences and peer‑reviewed journals.
• Prepare progress reports for funding sources.
• Seek external funding to support and expand research activities, enhancing the visibility of the University and initiating projects with government, private sector, and community partners.

• Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Rehabilitation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Highly self‑motivated and proactive with exemplary problem‑solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of human‑subject research.
• Experience with biostatistics and data analysis (preferred).
• Evidence of scholarly research and interest in publishing results.
• Capability to work with the research team and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.

Condition of Employment:
This is a sponsored program appointment; duration is subject to grant fund availability.
