High School Assistant Cook (5.5 hrs

Fieldcrest CUSD 6 is seeking an assistant cook for the High School building.

Hours are anticipated to be 5.5 hours per day and require flexibility.

• Demonstrated aptitude for the successful completion of tasks in the fulfillment of the assigned responsibilities.
• Experience with school food service or the equivalent in food service in other institutions and/or firms helpful but not required.
• Food sanitation certificate required; specialized training in food service preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.

• Certificate of good health signed by a licensed physician.
• State of Illinois fingerprinting and background check in compliance with state code and district policy requirements. (A fingerprint-based criminal history records check and a check of the Statewide Sex Offender Database and Violent Offender Against Youth Database (when available) will be performed on the successful candidate as required by State law. Each newly hired employee must complete an Immigration and Naturalization Service Form as required by federal law.

• Food service sanitation certification before beginning work. Training as required by law as necessary.

• Able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds during the daily performance of the position
• Able to sit, stand, kneel, walk, carry objects, and use hand and power tools as necessary to adequately complete essential elements of the position
• Able to write and speak or otherwise adequately communicate in order to notify others of imminent danger, complete reports and communicate with supervisor, subordinates, students and other persons in the workplace
• Able to organize work in order to complete assigned tasks

• Works with the head cook to provide each student and staff member, as desired, the opportunity to receive a nutritious and tasteful meal in an atmosphere of cleanliness, cheerfulness, and personal caring
• Maintains proper food preparation and sanitation procedures
• Must be cooperative with supervisors, teachers, students, parents and community members
• Must be responsible in helping to secure the kitchen and equipment at all times
• Must be willing to work additional hours when requested

• Rigorously follows all standards and controls for safety in the food service area.
• Follows instructions from the head cook in completing daily tasks.
• Works with other food service workers in order to accomplish the responsibilities established in this job description.
• Maintains food service sanitation certification, as well as any other certification that may be required by law or the district. As needed, receives and follows minimum training in state/health department endorsed food serving standards, meets all required food service certification and enforces these practices at all times.
• Assists head cook as assigned in proper inventory control and government commodity disposition.
• Notifies head cook of necessary repairs to ensure proper program operation and sanitation. Notifies head cook or Building Principal of emergencies. Notifies head cook or Building Principal of events or concerns which may impact ability to complete food service tasks or which may disrupt the normal flow of the school schedule.
• Assists head cook in proper sanitation procedures and correction of concerns brought by the Health Department, as requested.
• Follows procedures to ensure the food production system safely and sanitarily provides nutritious food of maximum quality.
• Completes and submits accurate time sheets in a timely manner.
• Checks email regularly (at least once a day); responds to email as necessary.
• Maintains effective working relationships with supervisor, students, staff, and community members. Is courteous and polite with students, staff and co-workers, and the general public.
• Arrives punctually. Remains on the school premises during school hours when scheduled to work. Remains on school grounds when requested by either the supervisor or Building Principal.
• Follows all rules, regulations, policies, etc., pertaining to the completion of all facets of the position. Follows established safety procedures at all times.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
