Qualifications:
Post-high school education or a college degree is desirable. Minimum of five years experience as a police officer or security supervisor, or three years of security experience preferred. Ability to supervise personnel effectively. Knowledge of the basic principles of physical security measures and techniques. Demonstrates good listening skills and communicates effectively. Able to demonstrate patience and gain students' cooperation. Ability to interact with students, staff, and parents positively and professionally.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive information. Demonstrates proficient use of the English language in written and oral forms. Use/operate technology and equipment related to the position/job. Able to walk and stand for extended periods. Resourceful, self-directed, and self-motivated.

Position Summary:
Responsible for the physical security and safety of students and personnel at Barrington High School.
Essential Functions:
- Monitors the safety, security, and well-being of all students, personnel, and visitors.
- Interact with students and visitors with respect and dignity.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and visitors.
- Provide supervision and security after school, at extracurricular events, and on other occasions as requested.
- Be visible and assist in maintaining a safe and orderly environment, including monitoring halls, washrooms, locker rooms, parking lots, surrounding campus, etc.
- Assist in de-escalating student conflict situations while referring the situation to administration.
- Intervene in situations that pose a threat to students, staff, visitors, or school safety.
- Monitor 2-way radio traffic and respond appropriately.
- Supervise cafeteria and bus loading.
- Supervise and monitor students in a structured study and/or in-school detention.
- Building supervision before and after school, including crosswalk duty located off school grounds.
- Work with school personnel to provide a safe and orderly school environment.
- Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
- Assists administrators with the enforcement of all school rules and managing student behavior.
- Assist with surveillance and intervention in problem areas with the school administration.
- Develops positive relationships with many students, staff, and community members.
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Physical Context of the Job:
Able to walk and stand for extended periods of time. The individual must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
General Comments:
Provide guidance and positive direction to the student body regarding respect and school expectations for behavior as described in the Student Handbook. Intervenes and takes appropriate action when respect for the individual or our educational environment is not demonstrated. Is proactive - prevents problems from developing. Enjoys the daily challenge of dealing with adolescent issues and providing positive direction and encouragement.
