Sherman's:
Proudly Not Normal Since '76 (and Counting!)

Forget everything you think you know about retail. Back in '76, while the world was doing its thing, Sharon Sherman was busy building something different – a side hustle selling clocks and gifts with a whole lot of heart. Fast forward nearly half a century, and Sherman's has blossomed into four locations packed with home appliances, furniture, and mattresses.

Sure, we've grown beyond microwaves, but our family values? Rock solid.
Show Concern. Have Fun. Be Helpful. Demonstrate Integrity. Show Ambition. Develop Relationships. These aren't just words on a wall; they're the fuel that keeps us going.

Why are we here? Because we're genuinely passionate about our community. We're the neighbors who help you turn houses into homes. And it all started because Sharon dared to be different.

Now, about you. You are not looking for just any maintenance job. You are ready to join a team of skilled technicians who care about their work and each other. A team that works hard, while maintaining a great sense of humor (pun intended).

You’ve built a strong foundation in hands-on repair work and building systems. You’re confident in what you know — and are just as committed to continuing to learn, grow, and refine your craft.

What You’ll Do

As a Maintenance Technician II at Sherman’s, you’ll join a small, tight-knit team responsible for maintaining our 4 commercial facilities throughout Central Illinois.

Our facilities are large and active, and you’ll stay busy tackling a wide range of maintenance, repair, and improvement projects that directly support store teams and daily operations.

Here’s what that looks like:
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and painting
  • Complete preventative and corrective maintenance on facility systems
  • Use a mobile device to manage and complete maintenance requests
  • Inspect facilities, identify potential issues, and help prevent future problems
  • Support renovations and special projects (our Peoria store remodel is a big one!)
  • Occasionally assist with groundskeeping or custodial needs when needed
  • Follow safe work practices and uphold Sherman’s Core Values in everything you do
What We’re Looking For

We’re not hiring a master technician — we’re hiring a solid, team-oriented technician who wants to keep growing.

  • 3–4 years of maintenance experience (commercial property, construction, HVAC, plumbing, or electrical)
  • Solid working knowledge of general maintenance tools and repair techniques
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and think critically about root causes
  • Comfortable reading basic blueprints or schematics
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with a variety of internal teams
  • Willingness to accept feedback, learn new skills, and continuously improve
  • Valid driver’s license
  • HVAC or electrical certifications are a plus — but not required.
Why Sherman’s?

You’ll be part of a team that:

  • Takes pride in high-quality work
  • Steps in to help each other without hesitation
  • Shares knowledge and supports one another — no one is left to figure it out alone
  • Holds each other accountable
  • Maintains a positive atmosphere where you will enjoy coming to work
  • Lives our Core Values every day

This is a hands-on role. You’ll move, lift, climb, and problem-solve. You’ll work in different environments and weather conditions. And at the end of the day,
you’ll see the direct impact of your work across our facilities
.

If you’re ready to build on your skills, grow with a strong team, and be Proudly Not Normal — we’d love to talk!

Equal Opportunity Employer. Pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check required.
