Electrical Technician
The Facilities Management Department at Elizabethtown College invites applications for this role. The primary duties are to install, operate, maintain, and repair electrical distribution systems, electrically powered systems, and equipment using accepted trade practices, equipment, and techniques of the electrical trade in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and state and local building codes.
Electrical Technicians are periodically required to be on call (24/7) to respond to service calls.

Essential Functions- Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and operate electrical distribution systems, motors, relays, magnetic starters, transformers, lighting generators, switch gear, electrical panels, fire warning systems, security devices, door actuators, electronic and electrical controls, and other electrical devices.
- Install conduit, wiring, wire mold, motors, relays, magnetic starters, transformers, lighting fixtures and controls, switch gear, electrical panels, fire warning systems, security devices, door actuators, electronic and electrical controls, and electrical devices typical to the electrical trade.
- Lay out work, prepare material lists, and estimate costs from drawings or field notes.
- Operate tools, calibration, and test equipment used in the electrical trade.
- Transport tools, equipment, and materials to and from the work site.
- Inspect and test elements of electrical systems to locate faults, blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, failed relays, and electronic control and monitoring devices.
- Repair circuit faults, failed switches, sockets, plugs, fuse insulators, relays.
- Prepare and maintain records of work orders, equipment, electrical components, repair frequency, operating times, and other critical operating information.
- Assist in operating electrical equipment to reduce electrical costs.
- Maintain and install interior and exterior lighting fixtures and systems.
- Maintain and operate emergency power generation equipment, transfer switches, emergency power panels, and emergency lighting.
- Assist other trades as needed to install equipment typical of their trades.
- Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Mark all PA One Call needs across campus.
- Run data cabling and terminate at receptacles in collaboration with ITS.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Assist in setting up and tearing down special events, such as graduation, orientation, etc.
- Assist in snow removal and other emergency response activity.
- Conduct all responsibilities in a safe manner according to regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED plus two years’ experience in electrical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, and/or RegistrationsThis position requires a valid driver’s license for business travel purposes and to drive campus vehicles (individual must have a US driver’s license for at least three years).

- Ability to apply electrical formulas and conversion tables of the NEC and Uniform Construction Code (UCC);
Skilled in interpreting drawings, charts, and technical instructions.
