Position OverviewThe Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Shelbyville State Fish and Wildlife Area. This position will perform maintenance of vehicles and equipment, maintain grounds and recreational programs, operate heavy equipment, maintain hunter check stations, clean restrooms, mow grass, plow snow, and, at times, serve as a lead worker.
Essential Functions- Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled and manual labor maintenance and program support tasks associated with maintenance of structures and facilities.
- Performs semi-skilled work by performing a range of duties associated with various building trades and skilled crafts.
- Performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment by changing oil, fluids, filters, spark plugs and belts.
- Inspects public use areas for health and safety hazards.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- High school graduation and two years of maintenance or farming experience, preferably associated with building trades and/or operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
- Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- Two years of experience following written and oral instructions.
- One year of experience in outdoor recreation.
- One year of experience in groundskeeping.
- Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
- Requires valid Class A Illinois Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes.
- Requires ability to obtain a pesticide operator's license within 6 months of employment.
- Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements year-round.
- Requires ability to lift, carry and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
- Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
- Requires ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
- Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.
Mon - Fri 7:30am-3:30pm. Some weekends may be required for hunting program implementation & public safety.
