Summary
The position is located at the Navy Gateway Inns & Suites operation at Naval Station Great Lakes. The purpose is to perform facilities maintenance involving two or more skilled trades. The incumbent performs intermediate level tasks and works more independently as training and experience increase.
Duties- Ensures security and privacy of all guests is maintained at all times.
- The incumbent is responsible for a variety of semi‑skilled and unskilled tasks involving standard methods related to the operation and maintenance of physical plant facilities.
- Performs work in at least two or more of the following trades requiring a higher level of skill than NA‑4749‑07:
Electrical, Heating‑Ventilation‑Cooling (HVAC), Plumbing, Carpentry, Painting. - Maintains work order log, follows up as required, reports status to supervisor, logs trouble calls with contractor.
- Plumbing – basic repairs to sinks, faucets, toilets, tanks, P‑traps, shut‑off valves, water supply; installing water heaters, garbage disposals, etc.
- Washer/Dryer repair – routine maintenance, cleaning lint ducts, replacing hoses, referring complex issues.
- HVAC – diagnose faults, make repairs, plan work, select proper tools, follow trade practices.
- Electrical – recognize and report problems, replace fixtures, repair wiring and controls.
- Carpentry – measure, cut, construct or repair wood items, screen, door frames, molding, drywall, etc.
- Painting – prepare surfaces, apply coatings, ensure finish meets protection requirements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Must pass all applicable records and background check.
- Must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
- Must be able to lift, move and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 45 lbs unassisted (100 lbs assisted).
- Must climb/descent stairs and ladders, stoop, bend, kneel, and work in uncomfortable positions.
- May be required to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, other than normal duty hours.
- Subject to a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).
- Starting May 7, 2025, non‑affiliated individuals requesting access will need a REAL ‑compliant driver's license or other acceptable .
- May be designated ALPHA personnel for inclement weather or national security, may be required to report for work when others are excused.
- May require complete physical examination to verify fitness for duty.
Resumes must include information that demonstrates experience, knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) related to this position. A qualified candidate must possess:
- Minimum two years of experience with demonstrated skill in at least two of the following trades:
Carpentry, Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, Painting. - Knowledge sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations concerning procedures, tools, mechanical and electrified equipment, commonly used chemicals, and basic safe work practices.
- Ability to present a welcoming manner and positive attitude, effective communication skills, professional interaction with guests, handling guest questions and complaints.
- Basic math and reading skills.
- Clear communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
This position does not have a positive education requirement.
