Interior Upholstery Technician – 1015 – Full Time, On‑Site, East Alton, IL, USA
Job OverviewWest Star Aviation is the fastest growing maintenance repair organization in the industry, offering professional growth opportunities and a small‑company culture. As an Interior Upholstery Technician you repair, refurbish, and reinstall interior upholstery components on world‑class business aircraft, working under the direction of a Team Leader.
Responsibilities- Repair and reinstall interior upholstery components, including seats, panels, and other interior items.
- Remove and install seats, disassemble, clean, repair, and modify components as needed.
- Perform basic to advanced foam build‑ups, patterning, and sewing of seat parts and other upholstery items.
- Complete daily turnover sheets.
- Maintain and repair shop facilities, equipment, and tooling.
- Navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.
- Maintain cleanliness of shop and surroundings.
- Work independently and communicate in English.
- Execute additional duties specified by supervisors as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel is preferred.
- Basic computer skills.
- Good English communication skills (spoken, written, read).
- Tech I: 0‑2 years experience in aviation or related upholstery.
- Tech II: 2‑4 years experience with substantial knowledge and general supervision.
- Tech III: 4‑6 years experience with full job knowledge and limited supervision.
- Master Tech: 6+ years experience, subject‑matter expert.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.; routine walking, bending, squatting, standing, and climbing ladders.
- Routine repetitive motions with arms and hands requiring dexterity.
- Understand and implement FAA, OSHA, Hazmat, and company safety guidelines.
- Read and comprehend technical documents; plan and organize work procedures.
- Work collaboratively in a professional manner.
- Primary work in hangar or shop environment; occasional work on ramp and in restricted aircraft areas.
- May be required to work overtime and weekend assignments.
The hourly rate generally ranges from $20 to $35, plus shift differentials, discretionary semi‑annual bonuses, 401(k) match, HSA contributions, and benefits effective day one.
