What you can expect as an Avionics Maintenance Technician at West Star

Our Avionics Maintenance Technicians are responsible for troubleshooting and repairing problems to the component level on avionics units (i.e., Navs, Coms, Pulse, Radar, Audio, and Autopilot Systems), as well as the aircraft systems.

Essential Functions
  • Perform general avionics support items on aircraft, including removal, installation of panels and components, and repair work.
  • Troubleshoot and evaluate aircraft systems.
  • Inspect and evaluate the aircraft and components.
  • Verify aircraft movement and system performance.
  • Maintain and repair shop facilities, equipment, and tooling to support operations.
  • Work with customers in project management, pricing, and support roles.
  • Work independently on projects.
  • Other job‑related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
  • Communicate effectively in English (speak, write, read).
  • Use basic computer skills to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.
Education

A high school diploma or equivalent. Electronics or Avionics factory training is preferred. A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.

Experience Tech I

0–2 years of experience in avionics, military avionics, or electrical field. Requires close supervision.

Tech II

2–4 years of experience in avionics or military avionics. Requires general supervision.

Tech III

4–6 years of experience. Limited supervision; capable of acting as trainer.

Master Technician

6+ years of experience with corporate/business avionics systems; subject‑matter expert.

Your Initiative and Sense of Responsibility

We seek self‑motivated team players able to perform in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision. Must attend work as scheduled, notify supervisor when unavailable, have reliable transportation, perform all work in accordance with FAA guidelines and company safety rules, and maintain customer‑oriented habits.

Physical Requirements

Lifts 50 lb. Routine walking, bending, squatting or sitting; repetitive motion with arms and hands; standing for long periods; climb ladders and stairs; work in small restricted areas.

Mental Requirements

Understanding of regulations, troubleshooting, evaluation, and functional testing of avionics and instrument systems. Work professionally with others.

Supervision

Works under the supervision of the assigned Avionics Team Leader.

Working Conditions

Hangar environment with extreme temperature variations; work outside during aircraft runs; varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used
  • Personal hand tools (supplied).
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment.
  • Jacks, stands, lifts, other support devices.
  • Tugs, power carts, engine‑powered equipment.
  • Crimpers, soldering iron, heat guns.
  • Personal computer and work order prints.
Compensation & Benefits

Hourly rate generally ranges between $20‑$40, subject to location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation may include shift differential, semi‑annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match, and HSA contributions.
