DOC Vienna CC Electrician

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as an Electrician at Vienna Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will maintain all electrical systems at the facility, maintain electrically driven mechanical equipment and associated equipment, and supervise and guide assigned individuals in custody. In addition, they will maintain an inventory of electrical supplies.

Essential Functions:

• Installs and maintains all electrical systems at the facility which operate on alternating or direct circuits and high voltage lines, generators and appliances through panels, switches, meters and circuit breakers.
• Identifies electrical problems at the facility.
• Keep up-to-date records of materials and inventory.
• Give estimates of materials needed and repair projects and their costs for future use as well as for budgetary reasons.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
• Requires successful completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and four (4) years full-time journey level electrician experience OR eight (8) years of full-time journey level electrician experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prefers at least five (5) years of professional experience maintaining and installing electrical systems that operate on alternating or direct circuits and high voltage lines, generators and appliances through panels, switches, meters and circuit breakers.
• Prefers at least five (5) years of professional experience identifying electrical problems and making repairs to fix those issues.
• Prefers at least five (5) years of professional experience keeping up-to-date records of electrical materials and inventory.
• Prefers at least five (5) years of professional experience giving estimates of materials needed for repairs and projects.
• Prefers at least five (5) years of professional experience implementing and following established national, state and local electrical codes.
• Prefers completion of current OSHA 10 training.

Conditions of Employment:

• Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
• Requires ability to pass a drug screen.
• The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
• This position requires the ability to work at heights, including on ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, or elevated platforms, while adhering to all safety regulations and using appropriate fall protection measures.
• Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
• Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
