Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Millwright Crane Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess current NCCCO certification(s) and experience operating cranes in industrial, construction, and maintenance environments. This position is responsible for safely planning and executing lifts, evaluating site conditions, setting up and operating cranes, and performing millwright and installation tasks when not engaged in lifting operations.
The successful candidate must demonstrate sound judgment, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work collaboratively with other teams.
Compensation may differ within or outside range based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, qualifications, specialized skills, education, geographic location, and internal pay equity considerations.
Position RequirementsResponsibilities
- Conduct daily safety inspections of crane(s), rigging, and associated equipment.
- Lead and coordinate pre-lift planning and safety meetings with teams.
- Interpret load charts and calculate crane capacities based on boom length, radius, counterweight configuration, and site conditions.
- Evaluate work areas and properly position and set up crane, including outriggers, blocking, leveling, and boom assembly.
- Operate cranes in a safe, controlled, and efficient manner in accordance with OSHA regulations, manufacturer specifications, engineered lift plans, and company procedures.
- Maintain clear communication with riggers and signal people using approved hand signals or radios.
- Execute millwright tasks as needed when not operating the crane.
While this position does not have any direct reports, Crane Operator is also responsible for:
- Planning all aspects of the lift.
- Directing activities of the crane team.
- Verifying load weights and rigging integrity.
- Determining appropriate communication methods.
- Making final decisions on whether conditions are safe to proceed
- NCCCO TLL certification required.
- Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT physical).
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- 3+ yrs experience operating cranes in industrial and/or construction environments.
- Demonstrated knowledge of crane safety, load charts, rigging, and lift planning.
- Ability to perform crane setup including outrigger deployment, blocking, leveling, and verification of ground conditions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude related to crane operation and heavy equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints, lift plans, and construction drawings.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and situational judgment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
