Controls Technician

Plastipak Packaging, Inc. is seeking a Controls Technician to support automated manufacturing and recycling operations in a high-volume rigid plastic packaging facility. In this role, you will troubleshoot, repair, and optimize PLC-based control systems, HMIs, variable frequency drives, and industrial networks for extrusion, molding, and packaging equipment. You will perform preventive and predictive maintenance, assist with equipment installations and upgrades, update documentation, and support safety and quality initiatives.

Collaborating with engineering, maintenance, and production teams, you'll help drive continuous improvement, uptime, and plant reliability in a fast-paced, innovation-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair PLC-based control systems, HMIs, and related automation components
• Diagnose and resolve electrical and controls issues on extrusion, molding, and packaging equipment
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on control systems and related hardware
• Assist with installation, commissioning, and upgrades of automated equipment and control panels
• Calibrate, configure, and maintain sensors, instrumentation, and variable frequency drives
• Document control changes, wiring updates, and maintenance activities accurately
• Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to improve uptime and reliability
• Support plant safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Monitor system performance and recommend automation improvements
• Respond to equipment downtime events and support root cause analysis
