Overview

The main function of a systems engineer is to apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software and systems that make computers work. A typical systems engineer analyzes user needs, and then designs, tests, and develops software to meet those needs.

Responsibilities
  • Modify existing databases and database management systems or direct programmers and analysts to make changes.
  • Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to management system or direct others in coding descriptions.
  • Work as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations.
  • Review project requests describing database users’ needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project.
Skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
  • Basic knowledge of the full software development lifecycle: from business/systems analysis, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery.
  • Basic ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issues.
  • Basic knowledge of circuit boards, processors, electronic equipment and computer hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of computer development software across multiple platforms.
  • Networking & connectivity design (LTE/5G, routing, bonded cellular).
  • Systems integration & troubleshooting.
  • Test strategy and execution for embedded/edge systems.
Education & Experience
  • Years of experience: 5-7 years
  • Degree requirement:
    Bachelor’s in EE, CE, CS, Network/Systems Engineering.

    Yes, if related to connectivity, networking, or embedded systems.
  • Are there past or additional job titles or roles that would provide comparable background to this role:
    Network/Connectivity Engineer, Systems Integration Engineer, Embedded Test Engineer, V&V Engineer, Field Test Engineer.
Technical Skills
  • IP networking fundamentals.
  • LTE/5G and/or bonded cellular experience.
  • Linux config/debug.
  • Wireshark, iperf, tcpdump, etc.
  • Test plan creation/execution.
  • Requirements tools (Jama/Doors).
  • V2X or remote‑control system experience.
  • Python/Bash automation.
  • Embedded gateways (Cradlepoint/Peplink/Sierra/etc.).
  • Network redundancy/failover.
  • RF/antenna basics.
  • Safety‑critical or autonomy exposure.
Soft Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

  • Ownership mentality drives tasks end‑to‑end.

Pay Transparency

The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is $49.00 - $50.00/hour. Non‑exempt positions are eligible for overtime at a rate of 1.5 times the base hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a work week, or as required by state or local law. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education and experience.
