Senior Controls Engineering Specialist to lead the design, development, and integration of Electro‑Hydraulic (EH) brake systems, including EH Overlay and Brake by Wire systems, for Caterpillar machine solutions. This is a technical leadership position focused on brake system controls, software architecture, functional safety, and system‑level integration supporting autonomy, remote control, and advanced operator assist features. The successful candidate will execute the development and deployment of scalable EH brake architectures, develop reusable control features, and ensure compliance with regulatory and functional safety requirements across multiple machine platforms.
Software will be developed in the Caterpillar integrated environment, including Model‑Based System Development via Matlab, Simulink, and AUTOSAR to support end‑to‑end compliance and quality.
- Lead controls and software development for EH brake and brake mechatronics systems across multiple machine applications.
- Define and own brake control system architecture, interfaces, and core functions to enable reuse and scalability.
- Use Matlab, Simulink, and AUTOSAR tools to develop embedded control algorithms for service brake torque control, arbitration, diagnostics, and state estimation.
- Collaborate with hardware, hydraulics, and software teams to align valve hardware, sensors, ECMs, and control logic.
- Support functional safety activities via ISO 19014 and ISO 13849, including safety goal definition, hazard analysis, and alignment with ISO brake standards.
- Guide system behavior during fault conditions, degraded modes, and safe state operation.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers working in brake controls and mechatronics.
- Support validation, test planning, and machine level integration for production and pilot programs.
- Engage with autonomy, remote control, and advanced feature teams to support brake system requirements and interfaces.
- Develop and mentor junior engineers on the braking team.

- Analytical Thinking: techniques and tools to analyze and resolve problems.
- Communicating Complex Concepts: ability to present and explain technical ideas clearly.
- Problem Solving: ability to resolve organizational, operational, or process problems.
- Technology Advising: ability to provide informed guidance on products, technologies, and solutions.
- Conceptual Thinking: identify critical ideas and interdependencies among system elements.
- Embedded Systems: automotive embedded systems knowledge for controlling machine operations.
- Requirements Analysis: elicit and analyze business functionality and non‑functional requirements.
- Extensive experience in embedded control systems for mobile equipment or automotive applications.
- Experience with Model‑based tools (Matlab/Simulink) and AUTOSAR toolsets.
- Experience supporting autonomy, remote control, or advanced machine assist features.
- Experience with functional safety and braking system standards (ISO 19014, ISO 13849, ISO 26262, ISO 3450).
- Background in brake systems, EH hydraulics, or safety‑critical control systems.
- Proven ability to lead technical decisions across cross‑functional teams.
- Experience with brake by wire or drive by wire systems.
- Knowledge of multi‑channel brake systems, torque‑based control, and physical system modeling.
