Job Summary

Performs responsible program building including planning, conditioning, training, managing, directing and encouraging students to play in the volleyball program, along with fiscal management of volleyball’s activity fund.

Qualifications
  • Minimum:
    1. Valid Illinois Teaching Certificate or
  • 2. Completion of Accredited Certification Program such as ASEP
  • 3. Two Years’ Experience as a Volleyball Coach

Desired:
1. Experience as a coach or participant in a college or high school volleyball program

High School Athletic Director

Nature of Work

This position reports to the High School Athletic Director. This is a professional head coaching position and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of affiliated state athletic associations, the Illini Prairie Conference and IVC District 321. This position directs a staff of Assistant Coaches who may have specific responsibility for setting, hitting, passing, blocking, etc.

along with coaching an underclass team. This work may include coaching in indoor areas that may or may not be air conditioned, exposure to fumes and loud noises, and driving a 14 passenger activity bus. The duties require moderate to active physical activity, handling of weights and objects weighing 25 to 50 pounds, and standing or walking more than four hours per day.

Primary

Duties – May include, but not limited to the following:
  • Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
  • Assesses player’s skills and assigns team positions.
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Works with the athletics director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
  • Assigns duties to an assistant coach as necessary.
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Determines game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
  • Follows state, conference, and school district regulations governing the athletic program.
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations.
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
  • Participates in special activities to include booster golf outing, senior night and awards banquets.
  • Maintains physicals, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
  • Follows and adheres to all requirements in the IVC Coaches Handbook.
  • Models non discriminatory practices in all activities.
Other Duties
  • Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal & Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.
